Blackberry plans to move BBM chat to Android & iOS

Blackberry plans to move BBM chat to Android & iOS

Blackberry CEO, Thorsten Heins announced on blackberry live that BBM real-time chat will now be available on Android and iOS platform by this summer. This great move tend to increase competition between BBM and other cross-platform chat apps.

The app will be free on both Android and iOS just like other messaging apps like WhatsApp, WeChat, Viber, e.t.c. BBM will now be one of the smallest cross-platform apps, with WhatsApp claiming more than 200 million active users, and WeChat around 190 million.

The BBM app will be available on Apple store and Google play for devices running at least iOS 6 and android 4.0 or higher.
Initially, only messaging and group features will be available but Heins promised that the rest of BBM features will eventually make its way to the Android and iOS versions including screen sharing, BBM voice and the just-announced BBM channels

You will now be able to start pinging from your android phone, iPhone, iPad.

The question is will anyone now go to the market to buy a blackberry phone after this summer?
